ABSTRACT

Knowledge Management (KM) implementation in Medco E&P operation has been big challenge, especially to achieve the future Companywide Knowledge Culture. The program was initiated from data management as well as the operation focused activities as needed by the business. The journey of data as well as knowledge management was started since long time ago, but finally it was fully implemented prior to have the change management program with specific strategic goal setting to increasing productivity.

The implementation includes standardized databases, knowledge base, e-Learning, community of practices (CoP) and e-Library (explicit knowledge) as well as networking (tacit knowledge) through knowledge portal. The results show us that availability of complete and accurate data and knowledge as well as the easiness of access in the business operation are really needed in the program. Over all, it demonstrates us how important to have the program initiatives. Management commitment, enforcement and reward and recognition program as part of KM sustainable program are in progress. It is suggested to have the same program in all Oil and Gas companies.

In order to measure the program successes, internally and externally benchmarking method have been done. Reports were presented to all employees and management to inform what level of KM implementation actually we are, to improve our KM awareness and to immediate enhance the KM initiative level of implementation resulting from the learning process to others.

Key words: Knowledge (tacit and explicit), Knowledge Management (KM), Knowledge Culture, Community of Practice (CoP) and Knowledge Benchmarking.
